• FONPRODE promotes sustainable human development through responsible financing in key sectors such as financial inclusion, agribusiness, and microfinance.

June 13, 2025- The Fund for the Promotion of Development (FONPRODE), one of the main financial instruments of Spanish Cooperation and administered by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), has joined the Latin American Association of Development Financing Institutions (ALIDE) as a new adhering member.

With an operational portfolio amounting to €518 million across 67 countries, FONPRODE plays a strategic role in combating poverty, reducing inequalities, promoting human rights, and fostering sustainable human development through a combination of reimbursable and non-reimbursable financing initiatives in key sectors such as food security, financial inclusion, renewable energy, and MSME development.

FONPRODE’s membership in ALIDE will strengthen cooperation between Spain and Latin America and the Caribbean, facilitating knowledge sharing, resource exchange, and collaboration with regional development banks. Through this alliance, both parties aim to drive joint initiatives that promote inclusive, sustainable, and resilient development in line with the principles of responsible finance.

The partnership between ALIDE and FONPRODE will open up new opportunities to expand the regional reach of Spanish cooperation, foster the development of innovative financing solutions, and support institutional strengthening among Latin America and the Caribbean’s development institutions.
