ALIDE highlights the importance of sustainable investment at CIFIT 2025 in Xiamen
- ALIDE’s Secretary General, Edgardo Alvarez, underscored the role of development banks as a bridge between development needs and investment capital at the Future Investment Conference (FIC).
September 15, 2025- The Latin American Association of Development Financing Institutions (ALIDE) took part in the 2025 Future Investment Conference, held on September 7–8 in Xiamen, China, within the framework of the 25th China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT 2025). The event, co-organized by UNCTAD and China’s Ministry of Commerce, brought together national leaders, senior executives, and development finance institutions from around the world to discuss investment trends, cross-border partnerships, and strategies for sustainable and resilient growth.
Representing ALIDE, Secretary General Edgardo Alvarez participated in the plenary session Investing for the Future, where he addressed the importance of infrastructure investment for the future, and in the roundtable on Sovereign Wealth Funds, where he emphasized the need for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) to attract long-term investment in priority sectors.
“LAC needs more productive investment, more financial innovation, and more strategic partnerships. Development banks are ready to serve as a bridge between development needs and global sovereign capital,” stated ALIDE’s Secretary General. He further stressed that the future of investment must strike a balance between profitability, impact, and sustainability.
ALIDE also participated in its capacity as Secretariat of the World Federation of Development Financing Institutions (WFDFI). Its presence strengthened ties with multilateral organizations and development finance institutions worldwide, while providing an opportunity to share best practices, explore co-financing opportunities, and enhance the capacities of its member institutions.
