The first phase of the Green Banking Program in Latin America comes to an end
- ALIDE served as venue for the event, in which representatives of MINAM, the IF’s Green Banking Academy, BBVA Peru and the University of Lima participated.
November 24, 2022- RENAC held the Green Banking in Latin America Conference that marked the close of the first phase of the Green Banking Program in Peru.
The conference, which took place at ALIDE headquarters, in Lima, Peru, with close to 30 program participants and scholarship holders, had the end purpose of bringing them together to look into and discuss new topics in the field of green and sustainable finance.
Participating in the meeting was the IFC Green Banking Academy (GBAC)’s Climate Advisory Service Program Manager for the Latin American and Caribbean financial sector, Carlos Serrano, who referred to the subject of how to manage climate risks.
Also taking part was the representative of the General Bureau of Environmental Economics and Finance of the Ministry of the Environment (MINAM), Jorge Luis Bustamante San Martín, who commented on what his institution is doing in the area of green taxonomy in Peru.
Two members of BBVA Perú participated in the panel discussion: the Managing Director for Corporate & Investment Banking, Emilio Remy, and the Global Transaction Banking Advisor, Edgar Daniel Velásquez.
Both provided details about the products and services being offered to their corporate clients in the sustainable transition and offered a picture of what commercial banks should do in the future.
Yuri Landa Arroyo, Doctor of Economics and Professor at the University of Lima, for his part, analyzed the outlook for green finance and the vulnerable sectors.
It should be stressed that, in the framework of this event, ALIDE and RENAC examined collaborative arrangements for offering education and training opportunities on subjects relating to green and sustainable finance in benefit of the community of development banks and financial institutions of Latin America and the Caribbean.
