Fifty-second ALIDE General Assembly culminates with the Declaration of Curacao

  • During the closing event, the ALIDE 2022 Prizes were awarded, the Bank of the Year was honored and Banco Provincia de Buenos Aires was hailed for its bicentennial celebration.

May 21, 2022- The fifty-second General Assembly of the Latin American Association of Development Financing Institutions (ALIDE),  held in Curaçao with the backing of the Curaçao Development Corporation (Korpodeko) came to a close after four days of activities.

ALIDE President, Carlos Linares, spoke at the closing ceremony, thanking Curaçao for its warm reception and for the presence of national officials at the Assembly.  He also drew attention to the efficient organization of the Assembly by Korpodeko and all of its collaborators, who enabled the event to come to a favorable close.

The Declaration of Curaçao was read at the conclusion, summarizing the commitment assumed by ALIDE and its member institutions following the Assembly, to focus their efforts on the work of the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) Development Banking system.

The Declaration underscores the importance of the Caribbean region’s integration with the Latin American region.  It also recognizes how essential cooperation and the exchange of knowledge and experiences are for sustainable development project finance and the fight against poverty and inequality.

It should be stressed that the document acknowledges, as well, just how valuable the agricultural sector had proven to be during the pandemic and emphasized that technological and social resilience is strongly needed in LAC, inasmuch as both as a system and a community it must learn to bear and recover from extreme disasters and disturbances.

In this connection, ALIDE committed to boost the creation of a digital ecosystem and to support innovation and technological development among its members and all of the development banking institutions interested in using better practices in their activities.

Recognition of Development Banks

The  ALIDE 2022 Prizes in the competition that honors and promotes innovation and good practices among development financing institutions, were awarded to ten institutions of Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica and India.

Banco de Desenvolvimento de Minas Gerais (BDMG) was also honored as the Bank of the Year and Banco Provincia de Buenos Aires for having reached its 200th anniversary and for act as a pioneer in Argentina’s financial system.
