September 23, 2022- GOBERDATA is the Data Governance Program that the Latin American Association of Financial Institutions for Development (ALIDE) has been running as part of the specialized technical assistance service granted to Banco Nacional de Fomento (BNF) of Paraguay.

The program, launched on March 16, 2022, has Hugo Beltrán as its ALIDE consultant and it is led from the BNF by Diesil Massi and Ricardo Rolón. With this initiative, the financial institution seeks to manage, improve and utilize the data for taking actions and strategic decisions in its entity.

As part of the cooperation activities, Hugo Beltrán visited Asunción from August 22 to 26 in order to give an induction on Data Governance to the area managers, to the work team (stakeholders) and the command team. In addition, he made a second visit to the BNF from September 19 to 23 in order to close the first stage of the program, which consisted in making a diagnosis of various business areas and defining a roadmap contemplating the points of opportunity for improvement in data management.

Previously, the Kick-Off was held: A Data-Driven Company of the Program (GOBERDATA) that considered a workshop for the Stakeholders, and there are several issues left to be developed, and challenges to be faced, by the BNF for 2023; among them, expanding Data Governance to other areas and generating a training program for the new Data Governance roles.

What is Data Governance?

Data governance is the capacity and maturity of an organization to manage the knowledge it has about its business information and to innovate products and services based on it.

In an interview in the magazine Banca & Desarrollo, specialist Hugo Beltrán talked about digital transformation and data governance and stated that “data must be considered as an asset and must also be governed.”

Beltrán considers that data governance is one of the main requirements for an organization to be considered as a data-driven company; that is to say, one that has adapted its business culture to a digitized environment and uses data to improve its functioning.
