This meeting, which will bring together more than 250 participants from 20 Latin American and Caribbean countries, as well as six countries from other continents, and representatives of 20 international organizations, will focus on «Financing for development in the face of current global challenges,» an extremely relevant topic for the current situation in the region.

Edgardo Alvarez, Secretary General of ALIDE, participated in the inaugural session, highlighting that the Annual Meeting of ALIDE «aims to be a bridge between institutions and development banks in the region to share best practices and possibilities in working together.»

For his part, Aloizio Mercadante, President of Banco Nacional de Desarrollo Económico y Social (BNDES), presented the central theme of the meeting and highlighted the importance of ALIDE in combating the adversities caused by climate change, in the industrialization of the region and in the decarbonization of agriculture.

«We are facing major transformations, in which development banking plays and will increasingly play a prominent and decisive role in the relationship between the State and the market, due to its ability to formulate public policies and act in a scenario of challenges and opportunities,» said Mercadante.

Paulo Câmara, President of Banco do Nordeste, was also present, who highlighted that he «is fully convinced that together we will build a better future for our countries and for the entire region.»

Sustainable development requires the participation of all sectors. There are people thirsty for justice, to coexist with nature in a fair, balanced way and with quality of life,» he said.
