In Honduras, everything is ready for the 53rd ALIDE General Assembly

  • Nearly 200 representatives of development banking from Latin America and the Caribbean will participate in person and virtually in the event

May 30, 2023- The Latin American Association of Development Financing Institutions (ALIDE) and Banco Hondureño para la Producción y la Vivienda (BANHPROVI) completed the preparations to celebrate the 53rd ALIDE General Assembly that will take place in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, from May 31 to June 2.

The event seeks to analyze the potential of Latin America and the Caribbean to interact in the international economy with the various regions of the world and attract investments and world-class companies.

Before the opening of the Assembly, on May 30, a session on the central theme: “Central America in the world: challenges and opportunities” was held, where it was explained that one of the main challenges in Central America is to combat crime and climate change, which affect the agriculture and tourism sectors.

Julissa Vásquez, Secretary General of BANDEX, affirmed that the informality in MSMEs in Central America has negative effects for both business owners and the economy in general.

She specified that this is because it restricts their ability to obtain financing and be a party to contracts with governmental entities or large companies. In addition, Vásquez pointed out that it also hinders the creation of quality jobs and compliance with labor rights.

In the session moderated by Irvin Zavala, Manager of BANHPROVI, Odalis Francisco Marte, Executive Secretary of SECMCA; José Manuel Otero, Head of Operations for Central America of the EIB; Armando Navarrete, Chief Economist of BCIE; and Daniel Castillo, Vice President of BANADESA also participated.

The panelists highlighted the opportunities that the region has to promote its sustainable development, such as its geographical position and access to nearby markets, and tourism.

Opening of the 53rd Assembly
