Financiera de Desarrollo Nacional (FDN) joins ALIDE as a new active member economic and social development initiatives

  • Colombia’s FDN specializes in infrastructure project structuring and finance, with a view towards attracting private investment and financing and thereby contributing to the reduction of social and economic gaps.

January 19, 2024- Financiera de Desarrollo Nacional (FDN) joined the  Latin American Association of Development Financing Institutions (ALIDE) as a new active member in order to bolster regional cooperation and boost new economic and social development initiatives.

The FDN was founded in Bogotá, Colombia. Since then, it has sought to promote efficient financial structures in an effort to attract competitive long-term financing sources, as well as to mitigate refinancing risks.

Among its most important contributions, the financial institution has extended loans for the development and improvement of lines 1 and  2 of the Bogotá Metro system; the Medellín 80th Street Metro; the Caribbean Coast electric service; the Bosa Hospital; the Santa Clara Hospital; and the Palmira Transportation Service Terminal, among other infrastructure projects.

The FDN was also the first institution to issue sustainability bonds in Colombia in 2019, valued at $131,350 million Colombian pesos, which were intended for the finance of the acquisition of the Transmillenium fleet in its I and II phases.

Financiera de Desarrollo Nacional’s participation as a member of ALIDE will enable it to strengthen links with international organizations, agencies for cooperation and other development banks, thereby fostering the exchange of good practices and information about the financing of the production and social sectors, particularly with regard to infrastructure finance issues.

ALIDE is the community of financial institutions that produce banking solutions for Latin American and Caribbean development. Founded in 1968, its main purpose is to contribute to the region’s economic and social development by promoting the use of good development finance practices among its members. It is comprised of more than 80 member institutions operating in over 20 countries of Latin America and other regions of the world.
