Declaration of Fortaleza: Development Banks reaffirm commitment to productive inclusion and support for environmental risk prevention projects
Fortaleza (CE), May 20, 2024- The members of the Latin American Association of Development Finance Institutions (ALIDE) reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen support for the productive inclusion of small entrepreneurs, as well as for environmental risk prevention and climate adaptation projects, especially in the agricultural and infrastructure sectors.
The Declaration of Fortaleza was presented on Friday 17, during the closing ceremony of the 54th Annual Meeting of ALIDE, held at the headquarters of Banco Do Nordeste (BNB). The letter of commitments began with an expression of solidarity with the population of Rio Grande do Sul due to the environmental disaster that is devastating the state.
The strategies set forth in the declaration seek to meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The institutions linked to ALIDE are committed to integrating environmental and social criteria into their financial operations, promoting sustainable projects with high economic impact.
The document highlights the commitment to strengthen support for productive sectors to improve local macroeconomic conditions, such as debt levels and interest rates. In addition, the institutions are committed to facilitating the social and financial inclusion of indigenous communities, young entrepreneurs, the elderly and projects led by women.
«Banco do Nordeste and the other institutions linked to ALIDE have reinforced their social and economic development objectives for each country and region. We have great challenges, but we are investing to bring quality credit to all sectors, generating jobs and income for the population», said BNB president Paulo Câmara.
Other commitments include the expansion of resources for basic, technical and business education, especially for micro and small enterprises. ALIDE member banks are also committed to expanding the digitization of financial services to increase productivity and efficiency in local economies. The declaration emphasizes the importance of investment in sustainable infrastructure as an engine of economic growth, highlighting public-private partnerships (PPPs) as key to achieving results in the medium and long term.
