
Banco da Amazônia S.A. joins ALIDE as a new active member
- Banco da Amazônia focuses its efforts on sustainability by implementing internal and external practices that reflect this commitment.
May 16, 2024- In an important step toward enhancing the sustainability and conservation of the environment, Banco da Amazônia has been incorporated into the Latin American Association of Development Financing Institutions (ALIDE) as a new active member. This union reinforces ALIDE’s commitment to the Amazon region and will promote the implementation of sustainable joint initiatives.
Established in 1942 for the purpose of financing plantations in the region to supply the allied countries during the Second World War, Banco da Amazonia has played a crucial role in the economic and social development of Brazil’s Northern region.
Today the bank is operating under the presidency of Luiz Claudio Moreira Lessa, with the mission of ensuring its sustainability by adopting internal and external practices that reflect its commitment to the environment and sustainable development.
Banco da Amazonia’s financial practices bear out its commitment to the conservation of, and support for family agriculture, as well as sustainable forestry management. Included among its outstanding efforts are its “Energía Verde” (Green Energy), “Amazonas Empresas Verdes” (Green Amazon Enterprises) and “Amazonía Rural” (Rural Amazon Programs, all of which aim to promote the region’s sustainable development.
Banco da Amazonia’s official incorporation into the Association took place during the Annual Meeting of the ALDE General Assembly, held in Fortaleza, Brazil, from May 15 to 17, 2024. The bank’s active participation will enhance ALIDE’s presence in the Amazon region and promote joint initiatives for the implementation of sustainable projects in one of the world’s most dynamic regions.
