Successful closure of first year of Green Banking Program, that continues until 2021

  • Activities –seminars, webinars and visits— will continue to be organized in 2020 and 2021 with the active involvement of Member institutions of the Latin American Association.

November 19, 2019.- The seminar “Applying Green Energy Finance – GEF,” held at ALIDE headquarters in Lima, Peru from November 13 to 15, completed the first year of activities of the Green Banking Program. The purpose of this initiative being furthered by the Renewables Academy (Renac) and ALIDE in Latin America and the Caribbean is to train capacities in the financing of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.

Among those attending the seminar for the Peruvian Member institutions were representatives of commercial banks, cooperatives and development banks. These participants shared their knowledge of, and experiences in, the evaluation, structuring and execution of renewable energy and energy efficiency financing operations. With the advisory assistance of five experts in different spheres of financing, the executives were able to obtain comprehensive training in the subject.

The seminar is the last of a series of activities conducted within the framework of the Green Banking Program, financed by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) and with the backing of Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).

Renac seeks through this program for banks to take advantage of business opportunities that are created in these areas, and thereby to exert an impact on sustainable development. The program is designed to increase the availability and use of financial institutions for renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, enhance the wiliness of financial institutions to act in this sphere, and facilitate accessibility to global climate finance options.

Thanks to ALIDE’s ongoing collaboration, this year the program was able to accept hundreds of scholarship students. Activities –seminars, webinars and visits— will continue to be organized in 2020 and 2021 with the active involvement of Member institutions of the Latin American Association. To that end, new opportunities are being opened to compete for program scholarships from December 11, 2019 to January 19, 2020.
