FFD4: ALIDE’s initiative takes part in the launch of the Sevilla Platform for Action

  • The initiative «Foresight for Sustainable Finance», presented by ALIDE on behalf of an international coalition, is now part of the global cooperation platform.

June 30, 2025- Within the framework of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4), the Sevilla Platform for Action (SPA) was officially launched. This new global cooperation tool aims to boost Financing for Development (FfD) in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As part of the launch, a list of approved initiatives was published and incorporated into the digital registry hosted on the summit’s official website. This registry will serve as a space for transparency and exchange, enabling key actors to interact with the initiatives and track their progress.

Among the highlighted initiatives is «Foresight for Sustainable Finance», led by the Latin American Association of Development Financing Institutions (ALIDE), representing a coalition composed of FiCS, ICS, UNEP FI, and ECF.

This proposal seeks to promote strategic foresight applied to sustainable finance and to facilitate the implementation of the outcomes of FFD4, with the aim of building financial systems prepared to face the challenges of the 21st century.

The initiative includes a concrete first phase, comprising the establishment of a collaborative platform, the organization of online foresight workshops, and the hosting of a side event during FFD4, titled “Exploring 2050 Pathways for Sustainable Finance”, to be held on July 1.

In addition, its continuity is foreseen with activities leading up to and during COP30 in Belém, where strategic long-term scenarios for sustainable finance will be developed. A synthesis report compiling the main findings will be published at the end of 2025 or early 2026.

Foresight for Sustainable Finance will directly contribute to the FfD areas of action related to systemic issues, as well as to science, technology, innovation, and capacity building. Furthermore, it aligns with SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), with a global outreach perspective.

«This initiative reflects the idea that, through cooperation and joint action, it is possible to tackle global challenges by bringing together individual efforts. It will serve as a common space for all development banks and other stakeholders committed to sustainable development financing», said Edgardo Alvarez, Secretary General of ALIDE.
