CDF and UNEP FI join ALIDE as new associate members
- Their incorporation brings ALIDE’s membership up to a total of 85 member institutions of the region and international organizations.
December 5, 2022- CARICOM Development Fund and UNEP FI joined the Latin American Association of Development Financing Institutions (ALIDE) as new members, with the aim of becoming part of the community of financial institutions that produce Latin American and Caribbean development banking solutions. The incorporation of these two institutions brings ALIDE’s associate membership up to eighteen and its total membership to 85 active, associate and collaborating members.
About the CARICOM Development Fund (CDF)
The CARICOM Development Fund was established on August 24, 2009 for the purpose of providing financial or technical assistance to disadvantaged countries, regions and sectors. It has twelve Caribbean member countries, to wit: Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Neves, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago. Its close relationship with ALIDE will enable it to strengthen the ties between Caribbean and Latin American development banks.
One of the most important activities of the CDF is to support the development of SMEs, finance energy efficiency projects in the private sector and help to build highways, bridges, and air and sea accesses.
About the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI)
The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative was created in 1992 and brings together a large network of banks, insurance companies and investors that collectively catalyze the action of the entire financial system to create more sustainable global economies.
UNEP FI is currently promoting sustainable market practices and supports global program implementation at the regional level in Africa, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean and North America. In total, it has a worldwide membership of 490.
It also has initiatives underway to restrain climate change, fulfill the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and promote sustainable finance, among other things
What is an associate member?
ALIDE’s associate members are multilateral, regional or subregional financial institutions in or outside the Latin American and Caribbean region, whose mission is to contribute to economic development.
About ALIDE
ALIDE is the community of financial institutions that produce banking solutions for Latin American and Caribbean development. Founded in 1968, its main purpose is to contribute to the region’s economic and social development by promoting the use of good development finance practices among its members. It is comprised of more than 80 member institutions operating in over 20 countries of Latin America and other regions of the world.
