ALIDE’s 56th General Assembly Opens Tomorrow in Paraguay, Focused on Investment, Innovation and Social Inclusion in the Region

  • Nearly 300 development banking leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean will meet in Asunción to examine the challenges and opportunities shaping the region’s agenda.

19 de mayo de 2026 – Everything is in place for the start of the 56th General Assembly of the Latin American Association of Development Financing Institutions (ALIDE), to be held from May 20 to 22 in Asunción, Paraguay. The meeting will bring together nearly 300 senior executives from development banks, multilateral organizations and financial institutions from Latin America and the Caribbean.

Co-organized by ALIDE and Paraguay’s Banco Nacional de Fomento (BNF), the Assembly has become one of the region’s leading forums for sharing experience, strengthening partnerships, and analyzing the opportunities and challenges facing development banking in today’s economic and social context.

The Assembly also benefits from the strategic support of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), S&P Global Market Intelligence, Agri-PDB Platform, and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA).

Over three days, the program will feature a broad agenda including plenary sessions, keynote presentations, specialized panels, and side events focused on priority issues for the region’s sustainable development.

Key thematic pillars include productive investment to generate employment, innovation and technology to boost entrepreneurship and productivity, and resilient infrastructure as a tool to strengthen social inclusion.

The opening session will include remarks by Paraguayan authorities, including the Minister of Economy and Finance, Óscar Lovera, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Paraguay, Carlos Carvallo.

The first day will also feature the presentation of the housing program Ché Róga Porã (“Mi Casa Bonita”), led by the Minister of Urban Planning, Housing and Habitat, Juan Carlos Baruja, as well as a panel on local capital markets and local-currency financing for sustainable development, promoted by Banco Nacional de Fomento.

On the second day, the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) will present the World Bank Group Guarantee Platform, while the panel “Voices from the Caribbean: New Initiatives and Innovations” will showcase experiences and initiatives led by Caribbean financial institutions, including CARICOM and DFC of Belize.

The agenda also includes presentations on impact monitoring and evaluation, as well as on artificial intelligence applied to governance and the ethical challenges facing financial institutions.

As part of the second day’s closing activities, the ALIDE Awards 2026 ceremony will be held, recognizing the region’s leading development banking initiatives and honoring the Bank of the Year for its performance and contribution to the sector.

The final day will focus on the Association’s institutional sessions and on the presentation of strategic initiatives to strengthen development banking. Among them, Nacional Financiera (NAFIN) will share its experience under the PEEB Cool program, aimed at supporting energy-efficiency and sustainability projects.

Pre-Assembly activities strengthened regional coordination

Ahead of the Assembly, several preparatory activities were held, including the coordinators’ meeting; a meeting of ALIDE member representatives to present initiatives and proposals; and the meeting of ALIDE’s Board of Directors, where Board members reviewed the Association’s progress and shared strategic guidance.

In addition, bilateral meetings among participants have begun—an ALIDE-facilitated service designed to connect institutions interested in building partnerships and future cooperation opportunities.

Those interested in learning more about the Assembly can visit the event’s official website. They may also download the ALIDE Eventos mobile app to follow the program and access updated information on the meeting.
