• • The three-day event brought together well-known representatives of the Latin American and Caribbean Orange Economy.

  July 27, 2022- The Latin American Association of Development Financing Institutions (ALIDE) concluded the online seminar “The Orange or Creative Economy: strategic line for the development banking system.”

  During the first day of the seminar, representatives of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), CORFO (Chile) and Bancóldex (Colombia) delved into the concept of the orange economy and explained that the strongest impact of the pandemic on this sector was its digitalization.

  Isidora Cabezón, coordinator of CORFO’s Creative Economy, pointed out that a pressing problem of the creative sector is its limited access to commercial finance and explained that this opens up an opportunity for the development banking system.

  On the second day, a presentation was made by Nicolás Mendioroz, CAF principal executive of the Urban Development and Creative Economies Management Division, who underscored the need to shed more light on the creative agenda and commented on the ways his institution commits to the creative sector in areas like the arts, music and the theater.

  Another participant on that day was the CEO of the Curaçao Development Corporation (Korpodeko), Chesron Isidora, who explained the work being done by his institution in supporting the country’s creative projects, in which the arts and culture constitute highly important sources of capital for development.

  Closure of the seminar

  The seminar culminated with the participation of Paraguay’s Federation of Creative Industries and Colombia’s Bankamoda. The latter organization demonstrated the growth of fintechs in Colombia and stressed that the rise in number of crypto, blockchain and wealthtech companies had created new job opportunities.

  Bankamoda CEO, María del Mar Palau, went on to explain that her organization is a humantech that seeks to build relationships of trust with its clients through the use of technology and to provide inclusive credit with a gender perspective that makes it possible to support women and maternal entrepreneurs.

  The three-day seminar was enriched by a fruitful exchange of experiences among the speakers, panelists and participants interested in the orange economy, a sector representing “a huge source of wealth grounded in talent, intellectual property, connectivity and –of course—the cultural heritage of our region.”
