Webinar: Successfully Implementing the
MDB-IDFC Common Principles for Climate Finance Tracking:
Experience from Supporting Institutions
General overview: In 2015, as a voluntary joint initiative, the members of the Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) Climate Finance Tracking Working Group and the International Development Finance Club (IDFC) Climate Finance Working Group agreed on a set of Common Principles for Climate Finance Tracking:
- MDBs-IDFC Common Principles for Climate Change Mitigation Tracking
- MDBs-IDFC Common Principles for Climate Change Adaptation Tracking
At that time, they shared their experience with Supporting Institutions of the Initiative through a set of three case studies:
- MDBs and IDFC establish Common Principles for Climate Finance Tracking
- MDBs Harmonize Approaches for Tracking in Order to Improve Disclosure of Important Climate Data
- The IDFC Publicly Reports Green and Climate Finance Data
Four years later, discover why and how the French Development Agency (AFD), the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) and the Inter-American Development Bank Group (IDBG) have integrated these Principles in their procedures and operations.
Objectives:
- Briefly present the MDBs –IDFC Common Principles for Climate Finance Tracking;
- Provide an overview of the specific approaches of three Climate Action Supporting Institutions;
- Provide an opportunity for participants from Supporting Institutions to present their experience and ask questions.

- Brief presentation of MDBs-IDFC Common Principles for Climate Change Mitigation Tracking – CAF/IDB (5 minutes)
- Case study: How mitigation is integrated into procedures and operations at CAF and IDB (10 minutes)
- Questions from participants (10 minutes)
- Adaptation (25 minutes total)
- Presentation of MDBs-IDFC Common Principles for Climate Change Adaptation Tracking – AFD (5 minutes)
- Case study: How adaptation is integrated into procedures and operations at the AFD (5 minutes)
- Questions from participants (15 minutes)
- Wrap-Up and Final questions (5 minutes)
