ALIDE, IDB and ECLAC presented the platform of the LAC Development Banking Community of Practice

December, 09 2021- The Latin American Association of Development Financing Institutions (ALIDE), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) presented the information platform of the Community of Practice for Banks of Development in Latin America and the Caribbean during the development of the webinar Responding to the COVID 19 crisis and challenges to promote economic recovery.

The General Secretary of ALIDE, Edgardo Alvarez, indicated that this financing and development banking platform will have issues related to gender, digitization, infrastructure, PPPs, projects, evaluation and measurement of impacts, results, and financial indicators. In addition, he commented that in this way his institution hopes to be able to share good practices and relevant information that contributes to the development of the region.

Meanwhile, the head of the IDB’s Connectivity, Markets and Finance Division, Juan Antonio Ketterer, highlighted the importance of the experience and the data obtained during the pandemic and pointed out that the joint work with ALIDE and ECLAC allowed the development of the initiative of the Development Banking Community of Practice.

“We meet three forces that believe in knowledge and we are going to promote this space to do many more things. One of them, which is for the moment, is to try to decipher the keys to the good practices behind what we did in these almost two years of pandemic, «said Ketterrer.

For his part, the director of ECLAC’s Economic Development Division, Daniel Titelman, added that the platform will also allow us to learn about the challenges that may be faced in the future and to continue promoting development banking in the region.

During the development of the webinar, there was also a presentation by Joao Carlos Ferraz, professor of economics at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), who commented on the origin of the Development Banking Community of Practice, and There were presentations by Georgina Cipoletta and Tarek Abdo, members of ECLAC, who presented the study Financing of development banks in the framework of the COVID-19 crisis in Latin America and the Caribbean.

In addition, comments were received from Romy Calderón, ALIDE’s Head of Studies and Information, who analyzed the document presented by ECLAC and shared the challenges and opportunities for Development Banking in the post-pandemic recovery.
