This meeting, which will bring together more than 250 participants from 20 Latin American and Caribbean countries, as well as six countries from other continents, and representatives of 20 international organizations, will focus on \u00abFinancing for development in the face of current global challenges,\u00bb an extremely relevant topic for the current situation in the region.<\/p>\n

Edgardo Alvarez, Secretary General of ALIDE, participated in the inaugural session, highlighting that the Annual Meeting of ALIDE \u00abaims to be a bridge between institutions and development banks in the region to share best practices and possibilities in working together.\u00bb<\/p>\n

For his part, Aloizio Mercadante, President of Banco Nacional de Desarrollo Econ\u00f3mico y Social (BNDES)<\/a>, presented the central theme of the meeting and highlighted the importance of ALIDE in combating the adversities caused by climate change, in the industrialization of the region and in the decarbonization of agriculture.<\/p>\n

\u00abWe are facing major transformations, in which development banking plays and will increasingly play a prominent and decisive role in the relationship between the State and the market, due to its ability to formulate public policies and act in a scenario of challenges and opportunities,\u00bb said Mercadante.<\/p>\n

Paulo C\u00e2mara, President of Banco do Nordeste, was also present, who highlighted that he \u00abis fully convinced that together we will build a better future for our countries and for the entire region.\u00bb<\/p>\n

Elmano de Freitas, Governor of Cear\u00e1, highlighted the initiatives financed by Cear\u00e1\u2019s development banks, especially Banco do Nordeste. \u00abCollaborative efforts are key to turning incentives into reality. Sustainable development requires the participation of all sectors. More about the event<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

The role of development banks in environmental preservation and reduced social inequalities is an essential part of the agenda of the 54th<\/sup> Annual Meeting of the Latin American Association of Development Finance Institutions (ALIDE), which will feature 11 workshops, six panels and three lectures that will address topics such as financial and social inclusion, reduced regional inequalities, infrastructure financing, sustainability and innovation.<\/p>\n

The second day of the event will begin with the plenary session: \u00abProductive transformation focused on sustainable production and consumption,\u00bb moderated by Salvador Ferrer, President of\u00a0Banco de la Rep\u00fablica Oriental del Uruguay (Brou)<\/a>. The next panel will be mediated by Aldemir Freire, Planning Director of Banco do Nordeste, and will deal with \u00abDevelopment banks and biodiversity protection.\u00bb On the same day, economist T\u00e2nia Bacelar will give the lecture \u00abA vision of the future for regional development and the role of multilateral banks and public development banks.\u00bb<\/p>\n
