The\u00a0Joint Declaration<\/a>\u00a0was signed by Gerd M\u00fcller, Director General of UNIDO, and Edgardo Alvarez, Secretary General of ALIDE, who expressed their intention to join efforts to promote sustainable industrial development in the region, in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9, which focuses on building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and fostering innovation.<\/p>\n

The collaboration between UNIDO and ALIDE seeks to mobilize knowledge, experience, technologies and financial resources. The agreement is part of the UNIDO regional initiative, known as the SDG 9 Accelerator, which supports the countries of the region through strategic alliances and knowledge exchange.<\/p>\n

The agreement also establishes the intention of both organizations to work on priority areas identified during the High-Level Regional Conference \u00abSDG 9: progress by innovation in LAC\u00bb, held in October 2022. These areas include industrial policy, decarbonization of industries, digitization and innovation, circular economy, SMEs development and employment, renewable energy and energy efficiency, as well as the empowerment of women and youth.<\/p>\n

Jaime Moll de Alba, Director of UNIDO\u2019s Division of Regional Offices and Field Offices, who participated today in the 53rd<\/sup> ALIDE General Assembly in Honduras, highlighted that: \u00abthis strategic alliance between UNIDO and ALIDE represents a crucial step to promote sustainable industrial development in Latin America and the Caribbean and connect those responsible for industrial policy in LAC with those responsible for development banking.\u00bb<\/p>\n

For his part, Edgardo Alvarez, Secretary General of ALIDE, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration: \u00abThis agreement will strengthen our capacity to finance and promote sustainable development in the various productive sectors of the region.
