BRIEF HISTORY At a meeting promoted by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) held in Washington D.C. on January 24, 1968, representatives of 37 development institutions of 16 of the region’s countries signed the Establishing Agreement and Bylaws of ALIDE. They also agreed that the Association’s headquarters and legal domicile would be in the city of Lima, Peru. In 1979, the ALIDE Building was constructed as the Association’s headquarters. ALIDE has directed its actions in accordance with the changing circumstances in which the development banking system operates. Conceived from its very establishment as a vehicle for the discussion and proposal of policies and of concrete solutions to the problems of Latin American and Caribbean development financing, ALIDE has become a regional forum par excellence for the analysis and discussion of these matters. Furthermore, during its General Assembly Meetings institutional relations and personal links are established and strengthened between high-level officials of Latin American development banks and those of other regions, which are systematically capitalized with the identification of opportunities and in joint projects and accomplishments with reciprocal cooperation.
