Mission of ALIDE Member Banks to Europe
Luxembourg – Paris, July 3 to 6, 2018
Invitation
The Latin American Association of Development Financing Institutions have the pleasure to Invite to your esteemed institution to take part in the Mission of High-Level Executives of ALIDE Member Banks to Europe (Luxembourg – Paris, July 3 to 6, 2018), during which we will visit the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the French Development Agency (Agence Française de Développement-AFD). This is a mission we are promoting in the framework of our efforts to strengthen cooperative relations between our finance institutions and those international financing sources, with a view to mobilizing resources for the sustainable development of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The visit and presentation in the EIB “Partnering to Support Sustainable Development in Latin America” (Luxembourg, July 3-5) will touch upon the bank’s activities in our region, its methodology, blending, programs and opportunities for financial cooperation with Latin American development banks in order to finance projects and investments in which climate and environmental sustainability are the primary aims. The AFD Workshop (Paris, July 6) on “Greening Financial Assets – Green Bonds & Socially Responsible Investings,” for its part, will examine the experience of development banks in structuring and issuing green bonds, this instrument’s new frontiers and the considerations of European investors in regard to Latin American bond issues, in order balance their supply and demand. For further information, see the attached Mission program containing the agendas of the two events: PROGRAM.
The European Investment Bank-EIB is a financial institution of the European Union whose mission is to finance projects related to EU objectives, in order to contribute to the integration, balanced development and economic and social unity of the member states. It also promotes the policies of the EU in other countries. The EIB has been carrying out activities in Latin America since 1993 under the mandates granted to it by the EU Council and the European Parliament. The existing External Lending Mandate entered into effect on July 1, 2014 and covers the period 2014-2020, with a maximum limit approaching 2 300 million euros for operations in Latin America.
The AFD, for its part, operates in Latin America and the Caribbean under a mandate called “green and solidary growth,” which means that it backs its partners in their transition toward beneficial economic development for vulnerable populations that is in keeping with the protection of the environment and natural resources. It also supports regional integration in the Caribbean region. The AFD Group provides expertise and financings (loans, grants, shareholdings) to both public and private actors at all levels of action, from states to territorial institutions, and from public and private enterprises to NGOs and foundations.
