ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION
LOCATION, CLIMATE, AND OTHER INFORMATION
Montevideo, situated on the northern bank of the River Plate, is the capital of Uruguay and the youngest capital city in Latin America. It started out as a port city which, because of its wealth in cattle and unbeatable geographic location, became the country’s capital in time.

It is a contemporary metropolis which concentrates a large percentage of Uruguay’s economic activities, trade and services, banking and tourism. As of the signing of the Treaty of Asunción,it has been participating in an accelerated process of regional integration, which is reflected in the creation of the Mercosur. With the adoption of the Ouro Preto agreements in 1994, Montevideo was designated as the site of the Treaty’s administrative bodies.

Montevideo greets you warmly, as expressed in the courteous treatment given by its citizens, the continuous improvement of its infrastructure and services, its care for the environment, and its firm commitment to making this city a true meeting place.

The weather in May is autumnal, with temperatures ranging from a low of 15ºC (59ºF) to a high of 20ºC (68ºF) and for that reason heavy clothing is recommended.

The use of business suits are recommended during the event.
