Quito, capital of Ecuador, is the second city in the country regarding size and economic and commercial importance. This city has a thousand-year-old mix of people and cultures, making it a unique place. Currently, it amasses four centuries of memories, encounters, conscience and rebelliousness, creation and faith, art and ancient knowledge. Quito, very beautiful and surrounded by exceptional landscapes, is located at 2,860 masl.

This city holds unique historic premises declared as a cultural patrimony for humankind by UNESCO, preserving colonial-style buildings that bear witness to its history. The following stand out: the Cathedral in Independence Square, Carondelet Palace (headquarters of the Ecuadorean Government), the Archbishop's Palace, the Church of the Society of Jesus and the Convent of St. Francis.

In 2011, Quito was declared American Capital of Culture by the International Bureau of Capitals of Culture. This award turns Quito into a cultural referent, not only within the region, but also worldwide and allows everyone to know about the treasures the city has, and that have made it into the American Capital of Culture.

If you are going to go out, it is essential to carry a light or wool coat and a raincoat with you, it is also advisable to use sunscreen and a hat or a cap in order to protect you from the sun. Sunglasses are also helpful, because the sun can blind you.

Quito has a mild and pleasant weather, with sun almost the entire year and moderate precipitations. Temperature during May ranges between 10 degrees during the morning and night and 20 degrees at noon.

Formal wear is required for the plenary, opening and closing sessions.
