In the last few years, extended regulatory reforms have taken place which have imposed in some countries more demanding requirements than those indicated by Basel. This has undoubtedly favored a much better performance from Latin American banking during the recent financial crisis, keeping sound economic and financial indicators, different from those in developed countries.

Although development financial institutions (DFI) are subject to regulation, other vital elements are direction and management, the relation of these entities with the State, the presence of adequate controls, transparent activities, etc. together with DFI good governance. The particular institutional operation of DFI has to be taken into account by regulators. This does not mean laxer regulations, but regulations in line with the goals, type of operations an risks faced by DFI.

The purpose of the Technical Committee meeting will be to define the priorities of the actions to be started in DFI regulation and corporate governance that may be carried out within ALIDE framework, through studies, meeting, training, consultation, and by sharing experiences and information.
